Deputy Becker conducted a traffic stop on a pickup due to the tag light being inoperable. The driver, Robert Barone, advised that his license is suspended (habitual) and he is currently on felony probation reference possession of a controlled substance. Deputy Becker advised that he would be under arrest for DWLS and violation of probation.
Barone then became argumentative and would not comply with Deputy Becker’s instructions. Barone had his two minor children in the vehicle with him. They exited the vehicle through the passenger side door. Barone then climbed over to the passenger side and exited the vehicle, fleeing into a wooded lot. A perimeter was established.
Air One and K9 responded in an attempt to apprehend Barone without success. A pass-on affidavit was completed charging him with felony DWLS, resisting arrest w/out violence and Child Neglect/ Endangerment without harm. The children were delivered to their grandparents’ residence and a copy of the report was faxed to DCF.
The vehicle was released to the registered owner, who denied having knowledge that Barone did not have a valid license. The owner has been allowing the suspect and his children to stay at his residence due to them currently being homeless. — https://www.volusiasheriff.org/reports/district5-logs.stml
